Hey Jown

I was there fishing the same general area too on Sat. afternoon with a laaate start.....water level was kind of high keeping our bigger boat (w/ high windshiel) from passing under the bridge to fish the bridge pillars & the little bay where most boaters, including yous I believe, were

The riverside dirt ramp was not for us and the South Simcoe Marina's ramp was under repair, so we had to launch out of a distant marina... fished some familiar locations along the river and worked our way back to the bridge without any success....finally got some fish off of of the public dock....fish were hugging to slip ruins and deep down....saw others getting fish too from shore & off boats under the bridge but not in respectable quantities...

I believe the big run is pretty much done now...but the bidge pillars will still hold fish for a while....but not all pillars hold fish, only early birds can entertain .....rig up a shorter rod w/ slip float for better casting with limited headroom in there...when fish are sticking to the bottom, just take off the float drop the lure to the bottom and work the rod left right slowly to entice fish bites...good luck!

Thanks shmartangler

I was one of the early birds fishing from shore Saturday morning. Caught only a handful but the angler 20 feet from me was pulling them in one after another. Guess you have to be in the right spot at the right time.

Thanks for your pointer in fishing under the bridge

Well said Shmartangler, you

Well said Shmartangler, you are very right about the early birds.  Canal only last about a week or so after that you are getting mostly dinks, but by then Keswick should be ready.

Jown, did you see the bait that the guy next to you that was catching one after another?  was it a tiny bait?  Was it an old man and a Asian guy?

Fishcrazy

Tiny bait

fishcrazy, I did not get a close up look at their bait. He was using a slip bobber and a tiny minnow type bait, he wasn't twitching it at all, just slowly watch it drift.

A friend just called and he didn't have luck at all today around 3-4pm fishing from shore. I guess the crappies are hug around the bridge pillars in this bright day?
