ICE FISHING FOR SALMON

Hi Ken, congrats on your new site!

Hi everyone, I know at this time of the year most of you are getting ready for Crappie season and all your ice fishing gear is put away.  But it's not over yet.  Right now, there are tons of Whities being caught in Owen Sound through the ice (near Hwy 26).  But as for me, I am fishing Salmon through the ice on Georgian Bay.  There is no fight like a Salmon's fight,
as soon as you hook one they will swim right up to the hole making you believe that you lost your fish.  What actually happens is that the Salmon is swimming towards the hole, when it gets near the hole it would then start its fight, then it will swim all the way down to the bottom, almost peeling out all of your line.  Each fight about a 5-10 minute battle depending on on th size.  I am fishing in a 100 feet of water, using a William.  These are not your typical stock Salmon, these Salmon are silver that they almost look like Rainbows, they are wild Salmon, and in these cold water they put up a great fight.  To catch them, you have to figure
out how to mimic an injured minnow because these Salmons are predators and if they see an injured minnow they will come from a far to strike it, so the hit would be very hard.  One, almost pulled the rod out of my hands.

Good Fishing,
Peter

Great report & nice pic !

It's not often that people give out reports on ice fishing for salmon..

You guys really make the best out of the ice season..

Any chance of running into some teenagers from where you fish?...should be fun pulling one that big thru the hole ;-)

Thanks
