I was talking with Mike Arpin at McGregor Bay Marina on Rice Lake and asked about the crappie bite. He said the cooler weather has started bringing big groups of crappie into the bay right in front of the marina.
I fished there last fall around this time for a couple of evenings and we caught lots of big crappie. The nice thing is the fish are bigger than in the spring and are feeding up before winter. It's easy to find fish right out in front of the marina and if you rent a boat from McGregor you don't have far to go.
My friends from Muskoka are considering coming down for a weekend and staying at Highland View Resort which is beside McGregor Bay Marina and also owned by Mike. I think he has some good fall rates for anglers.
The bite should last for a few weeks, so get them while they are grouped up.
I spoke about this at the last OCAA meeting and just wanted to let my friends know they are biting.
Good luck.
