January 4-6, 2008, Lake Temagami Report:

Before I give the official report on the Fishcrazy Temagami fishing trip I would like to introduce myself to all of you here at Smartanglers. My name is Taro Murata (fishcitytv.com) and I am one of the Fishcrazy Team members. Well I guess I'll start by saying that we had a BLAST!.  There were a total of thirteen guests with one female who made it on this 5.5 hour trip.

We all stayed at one giant beautiful lakefront lodge on Lake Temagami (TEMAGAMI SHORES INN and RESORT).  More importantly, the fishing was excellent. On Saturday, we all got out on the lake fifteen minutes away from the lodge that Peter Hoang from Fishcrazy Fishing Service recommended. Let me tell you this guy knows his stuff, lucky for us Peter had already done his homework and brought us to an area that he had already pre-fished and marked with his GPS. This area was loaded with fish. All of our Vexliars and Fishfinders were marking fish at a steady rate. In the first minute or so, I lost a fish on a Williams Whitefish spoon.

Right after losing that fish I looked over my shoulder and saw our friend Charlie who had his rod bent right over.  All the Fishcrazy team members rushed over to coach Charlie along with fighting his first Lake trout to the surface. We were all so happy to see Charlie's face after he landed a trout that weighed around four pounds. He looked so happy and excited, it even got me pumped!

Right after that fish, Charlie's rod went off again! After about a five minute battle with this drag ripping fish, Charlie's line went slack, the fish had shook off the hook. Charlie's face didn't look so happy this time but we assured him that he'd get another shot at it, and then he laughed and said, 'I really hope so'. Guess what?  His wish came true about ten minutes later. Charlie was into another battle but this time the fish didn't get the best of him, this time it was Charlie's first Whitefish that came to the surface. You should of seen his face when he landed that Whitefish, it was like he had witnessed a miracle! Two firsts in one day, it was Charlie's day!

As for the rest of the guys, most of them got their share of fish as well, except for our good buddy Vi from AV Fishing Store. For some reason the fishing didn't go his way this day but both Peter and I told told him that tomorrow would be his day.

Before our trip, there was a custom made belt for our derby.  The angler that catches the most and biggest fish that day wins 'THE CHAMPIONSHIP BELT'.  Our friend Tai, well, he caught the most and won the friendly competition of the day and took the Championship Belt!  At around 4:30 we started to pack up to head back to Temagami Shores Inn and Resort. Once back at the Lodge, we cooked up a storm. The beautiful Miss Jessica cooked an amazing gourmet pizza and Brian a.k.a 'Buckshot B' fried up one of those Temagami whitefish to perfection. We were fishing and eating like kings, what more is there to life???!

After dinner a few of the guests went for a two minute walk out into the dark to fish in front of the lodge. They had heard from the lodge owner that they could catch ling cod at night right in front of the lodge. About twenty minutes after they had left, I heard one of our friend Kahn screaming and laughing. He had caught a nice two pound Walleye, and Tai managed to catch two more after that.

Buckshot B then followed with two whitefish. They didn't catch any lings but they were happy to catch those fish. The next day, we decided not to travel and try right in front of the resort. The guests had told us that they were marking a ton of fish that weren't biting during the night. So we knew the fish were right in front of us.  We fished until about noon and Tai,  again,  won the friendly competition between us all and took the Championship Belt for the second day. He ended up with three Whitefish, a Pike and a Lake trout.

Vi from AV Fishing was a close second with three Whitefish and a Lake trout. It was great to see Vi catch his first whitefish on 2lb test line.  He battled the fish like a champ! The rest of us caught a fish or two each. It was an action packed morning to say the least. Tai's winning secret was jigging a chartreuse Buckshot spoon by using short fast pops of the rod to make them bite the bait. I just want to say thanks to Temagami Shores Inn and Resort for making us feel at home and to the rest of the guys who made this trip so memorable. We will definitely be back SOON.

If any of you ever see us out there on the water come over and say hi, we always love to meet new anglers! If any of you have any questions you can contact Peter Hoang at fishcrazy.biz or myself at
taro.murata@gmail.com (fishcitytv.com).

Not only lots of pictures were taken but a video was recorded, you wouldn't want to miss out on this video so watch out for it, it will be up in the near future under Lake Temagami Ice-Fishing 2008.

Happy new and good luck to all of you!
